Green Buildings: Commitments and Actions

Our "Green Buildings: Local Actions, Global Results" program promotes more resource-efficient models for construction, operation, maintenance and demolition.
Goals and commitments:
- Minimize environmental impact over each facility's life
- Apply engineering and sustainability innovations to building management and construction
- Promote the best alternatives to standard building materials and office interiors that support healthier, more eco-friendly business environments
- Conserve natural resources and reduce energy use
Notable actions we're taking to meet Green Buildings goals are:
- Sharing best practices and developing enabling tools to help colleagues make informed green/lifecycle cost decisions.
- Showcasing excellence through the Green Buildings Awards Program. To encourage environmental sustainability, this worldwide program recognizes colleagues for achievements in energy performance, water conservation, renewable resources, recycling/reuse, waste management and indoor air quality.
- Partnering with Armstrong World Industries, Inc. to reclaim an average 250,000 square feet of ceiling tile per year at our New York headquarters.
Our Clinical Research Unit in New Haven was the first building in Connecticut to be awarded a coveted Silver LEED certification.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is a designation provided by the USGBC to recognize buildings
that have been designed to reduce energy and that incorporate natural resources in design and construction.
